How to Build Lean Muscle Mass

  2. Eat enough protein. Shoot for 0.5 - 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day. Sources like chicken, fish, eggs, dairy, and protein powder can help you meet this goal.
  3. Be in a calorie surplus. To build muscle, you need to consume more calories than you burn. Calculate your maintenance calories and aim for 300-500 calories above that number.
  4. Get enough rest and recovery. Muscles are built when resting, not just when you're working out. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
